KATRAA - Crown of Oceanus - HEADGEAR VIII (2020)

$ 1,925.00

This is a one of a kind piece of wearable art made for the Five and Diamond Eighth Annual Headgear Art Show and shown on June 12, 2020.

My work is interstellar yet grounded in nature, yielding the dynamic of hard and soft from the metal work to the leatherwork. In all that I do, I aim for a tangible and visual quality that one can connect with, adding to its energy.

From organic lines to hard geometric shapes, varying textures on a monochromatic palette, futuristic yet balanced in nature, my designs embody an otherworldly aesthetic. I have created a wide range of one-off products for clients, including luxury leather goods and accessories, stainless steel welded wearable art, edgy bespoke fashion apparel, and interior and exterior metal sculpture. Though well executed craftsmanship yields high quality, it is its ability to positively impact the final owner that's the most rewarding aspect of what I do.

Initially inspired by the artwork of HR Giger's alien anatomy, this piece went through an evolution of unexpected new shapes. The only factor that never changed was my decision to paint the crown white, to evoke skeletal remains of an ancient civilization. Only after the details of metallic foil lamb skin and gold leaf were applied did the true inspiration of this piece emerge, reminiscent of oceanic life - as if this crown were a long lost treasure from a kingdom below our feet, brought to us from a time of tempestuous gods and mythical sea deities.

  • Designed by KATRAA
  • One of a kind
  • Unisex

MATERIALS USED

Wet molded and tooled vegetable tanned leather, hand painted white with metallic foil lamb skin and gold leaf detail, headband lined with pearlescent white cow hide.

WEARING INSTRUCTIONS

The focal point of the crown sits at the center of the forehead, directly over the third eye. To make adjustments with the lace closure, think of it as lacing up sneakers: Start at the opening of the top loop then crisscross twice down to the bottom and tie the laces. Excess lace can be trimmed or run again through the bottom loop channels for a more secure fit.

All headgear sales are final. Due to the unique nature of these works of art, coupon codes will not be accepted.
