This is a one of a kind piece of wearable art made for the Five and Diamond Ninth Annual Headgear Art Show and shown on June 18, 2021.

From the artist: An oversize Wool Top Hat with a needle felted human skull.  Goggles built into the eyes of the skull, and a full set of teeth, under the brim!

Needle felting is the art of matting raw wool fibers together using a special notched needle, slowly poking and poking the fibers together to make a formed felt object..... in the case a human skull.

Clocking in at over 100 man hrs, of tedious repetitive poking this is a project nearly broke me.... I estimate over 1million pokes were used to create this truly devious top hat.

 

MATERIALS USED

100% Wool Top Hat, Goggles, Wool Roving, Vintage Grosgrain Ribbon, Feather, Hand carved mini Skull.


WEARING INSTRUCTIONS

Depending on hat size this top hat can be worn up like a regular top hat, or pulled down over the face, the viewing happens through the eyes of a skull!

Bow/Feather can be removed for a more subtle look (as seen in last 2 pix)
