This is a one of a kind piece of wearable art made for the Five and Diamond Ninth Annual Headgear Art Show and shown on June 18, 2021.

I was inspired by the Elizabethan era in making this cocktail hat. I was born in Germany and raised in the wonderlands of Iceland and Japan, where I developed a fascination for all things modern and minimal. My artist mother took me to art museums and galleries all over the world, which led me to pursue my undergraduate degree in Art History. However, in my junior year of college in Michigan, I took a theatrical millinery (hat making) course and became hooked by the sculptural possibilities of the powerful accessory of the HAT. I’ve been designing and making headwear for almost 3 decades, with a brief foray as a corporate footwear designer. I have also taught millinery to fashion students at Parsons School of Design as an adjunct Professor for 3.5 years.

  • One of a kind

MATERIALS USED

Hand painted vegetable tanned arapaima fish leather from Brazil. The fish were sustainably harvested for the fish meat. The skin is a by-product, and would have been thrown out. * Distressed lambskin lining * Cotton/rayon grosgrain ribbon * Goose biot feathers * Red-eared slider turtle skull

WEARING INSTRUCTIONS

Please handle this hat by the fish leather base. The front the 'v' point, which goes where the third eye sits. The grosgrain ribbon ties underneath the hair, at the nape of the neck. It helps to make a knot first before making the bow. Please do not wear in the rain. Store in the hat box when not in use, taking care to let the feathers lay straight and flat (not bending them).

All headgear sales are final. Due to the unique nature of these works of art, coupon codes will not be accepted.
